I have a cigarette burn on my arm which is healing (kinda) and was wondering if keeping it in water for extended periods of time is likely to help it heal, make the scar that will appear worse or do nothing at all?Is it better to keep a burn dry when taking a bath/shower?
cold water is the best first aid when you burn yourself - 20 minutes under the tap is ideal. NEVER ice or vinegar or milk or butter or mustard or toothpaste or Sunscreen or semen or vaseline or tomatoes or vanilla extract or yogurt or sour cream or egg white or Lavender oil or Cocoa butter - not until the skin is fully healed! ignore anyone who advises any of these!
It doesn't need to dry. Feel better! :)Is it better to keep a burn dry when taking a bath/shower?
Water doesn't help, consistent moisture breeds bacteria and prevents scabbing. Scabbing is important to the healing process as it provides the necessary protection for skin cells while they rebuild. If your burn, is no longer burning, then you should be washing it with gentle soap, pat dry then add a dab of neosporin an cover with a bandage.
Appearance should be the last thing on your mind. You have to keep that area clean so even if you keep it dry when you take a bath make sure you go back in the sink and wash it any way. Just try to remember not to scrub that area. Use neosporin and peroxide to keep it clean and uninfected. Try to leave it uncovered as much as poosible, the air will dry it out and make it heal a little faster.
If it is still hurting, then cool water would work better, but i have a burn on my wrist from the other day and i took a steaming hot bath. so it should be fine. don't use any oils, lotions, vinigers etc. the water will be REALLY good for the burn, it will clean it and help it heal faster.
it will make it hurt like hell, usually.
keeping it dry is better.
putting A%26amp; D ointment on it will help more than most other things.
you can usually find it in the drug store, in the section near diapers - they use it for diaper rash in babies.
Keeping any sore moist will help it heal faster, as long as the moisture is protected from bacteria. Just a bandaid that has been moistened works wonders.
no because it needs to keep clean so it doesnt get infected. however dont let the full pelt of the shower hit your burn because it will hurt.
hope this helps
xxx
